Syllabus
- Select appropriate medications based on patients’ needs and eligibility for drug benefits such as Ontario Drug Benefit Program and OHIP+
- Describe commonly used anti-seizure medications in terms of their use, side effect profiles, and therapeutic drug monitoring considerations
- Recognize process for titration and adjusting medications
- Identify appropriate selection of ASMs
- Compare monotherapy versus combinations of ASMs
- Explore the use of rescue therapy
- Identify principles of seizure safety
- Identify evidence-supported indications and dosing
- Recognize common drug-drug interactions and side effects
- Discuss recommendations for ASM withdrawal
- Describe common issues regarding withdrawal of ASMs
- Explore classes of medications that are highly susceptible to ASM interactions
- Discuss management implications of ASM and drug interactions (dosage adjustment)
