Syllabus

  • Select appropriate medications based on patients’ needs and eligibility for drug benefits such as Ontario Drug Benefit Program and OHIP+  
  • Describe commonly used anti-seizure medications in terms of their use, side effect profiles, and therapeutic drug monitoring considerations 
  • Recognize process for titration and adjusting medications
  • Identify appropriate selection of ASMs 
  • Compare monotherapy versus combinations of ASMs  
  • Explore the use of rescue therapy  
  • Identify principles of seizure safety 
  • Identify evidence-supported indications and dosing 
  • Recognize common drug-drug interactions and side effects
  • Discuss recommendations for ASM withdrawal 
  • Describe common issues regarding withdrawal of ASMs 
  • Explore classes of medications that are highly susceptible to ASM interactions 
  • Discuss management implications of ASM and drug interactions (dosage adjustment)
